Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. There are no treatments or medications involved. It’s only questionnaires and sharing the data from diabetes devices you use as part of your care.
There are few studies about diabetes management during pregnancy, so information you share can help us learn more about what makes living with diabetes during pregnancy easier.
If your doctor has not given you your due date but you know the date your last menstrual period started, you can use this calculator to see how far along in your pregnancy you are.
You will be asked to share data from your continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and any other diabetes devices you use to manage your diabetes. This may be an insulin pump or connected insulin pen. The study team will help you to determine how you can share your insulin data. If you use an insulin pump, in many cases we will be able to get the data from the manufacturer. If you use syringes for multiple daily injections, we will ask you some questions about how you give your insulin. We will also ask you some questions about your diabetes and diabetes management, opinions and feelings about managing your diabetes, medical history, pregnancy history, current substance use, education, job, income, and health insurance. If you have additional questions or concerns, please reach out to our study team, T1Dpregnancy@jaeb.org or 813-975-8690.
We will ask you to complete study questionnaires once during each trimester and once about four weeks after you have your baby. Each participant’s length of time in the study will be different. It will depend on how far along you are in your pregnancy when you joined the study and when you complete your last set of questionnaires after your baby is born.
After you create your MyDataHelps account, sign the consent form, and complete the Eligibility Screener we will have a few more surveys for you to complete. Each survey takes just a few minutes to do. You can also save your progress to finish later. The surveys at each time point should take less than an hour total to complete. You do need to finish all the surveys before the survey window closes. Participants get reminder email and text messages if they have items that are missing.
No. The study is fully online and open to people anywhere in the United States.
You will receive your compensation after completing all study tasks at each timepoint. This means finishing all the questionnaires and loading enough CGM data.
Please contact our study team who can help you, T1Dpregnancy@jaeb.org or 813-975-8690.
No, you do not need to use an insulin pump to join the study. You just need to take at least 2 insulin injections per day.
We want you and your doctor to make the best decision for you! If you switch CGM or pump brands or start or stop using an insulin pump that’s ok. We have questions in the surveys that will let us know about these changes.
Absolutely! We hope to have many people join the study and help share their experience with us. The more people we have join, the more we can learn about how pregnant people manage T1D during pregnancy to help make it better for people in the future.
