Mobile Terms of Service

Version: 1.1
Effective Date: February 01, 2026

Section 1: Overview

This Mobile Terms of Service outlines how the Jaeb Center for Health Research (JCHR) communicates with clinical trial participants via SMS/text messaging. By opting into JCHR’s SMS program, participants agree to receive recurring text messages related to their participation in JCHR conducted/coordinated clinical studies, including appointment reminders, medication reminders, questionnaire prompts, and other study related communications.

Participation is voluntary and participants may opt out at any time. Message and data rates may apply.

Section 2: Scope

As this is an external facing document to summarize JCHR's internal policies and procedures for external audiences, JCHR staff are not required to review and sign off on this policy.

Section 3: Details

3.1  Program Description

When participants opt in to the JCHR messaging program by consenting to take part in a clinical trial, they will receive SMS messages related to their participation in clinical trials. These may include:

  • Appointment reminders
  • Medication or dosing reminders
  • Questionnaire and survey completion reminders
  • Study updates or instructions
  • Notifications of upcoming study milestones

These messages are sent to help participants stay engaged and compliant throughout their participation.

3.2  Opt-Out Instructions

Participants can cancel the SMS service at any time by texting "STOP" to the number from which the SMS messages are sent.

After participants send the SMS message "STOP", JCHR will send a confirmation message to confirm that the participant has been unsubscribed. After this, participants will no longer receive SMS messages from JCHR.

Please note: If receiving SMS messages is a requirement for the study, opting out of receiving text messages means that the participant will no longer be permitted to continue their participation in the study. Participants should discuss this with their study team to determine whether receiving SMS messages is required for participation.

If participants wish to rejoin the JCHR messaging program, they may opt in again by sending the SMS message “START” and JCHR will resume sending messages.

      3.3  Support for Participants

If participants experience issues with the messaging program, they can:

      • Reply with the keyword “HELP” for more assistance, or
      • Contact the study team using the contact information on the first page of the consent form they signed to be in the study

      3.4  Message Delivery Disclaimer

Please note that mobile service carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

        3.5 Message Frequency and Charges

Message and data rates may apply for the messages sent for the study.

The frequency that messages will be sent is dependent on each individual study. Participants should review their consent form to learn more about how often messages may be sent.

If participants have any questions about their text or data plan, they should contact their wireless service provider.

        3.6  Privacy Policy

JCHR is committed to protecting the privacy of participants. For information on how JCHR collects, uses, and protects personal data, please review the JCHR Privacy Policy found on the https://www.jaeb.org/hrpp/ internet page.
