DATABASE / RESEARCH ASSISTANT
The Database/Research Assistant position assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of databases used for clinical studies. The position is supervised by the data manager and/or the study project director. The Database/Research Assistant role is intended to be a training path for eventual growth into a data manager position.

Responsiblities
Assist Data Managers
   o Create data tables with required fields and extended properties.
   o Add fields to existing tables, including extended properties
   o Create records as needed in programming tables
   o Assign field names, type, and attributes for data collection forms
   o Write queries to retrieve information from study databases
   o Maintain project and protocol documentation binders •
Assist Project Programmers
   o Create data collection forms for web development
   o Create forms as needed for internal company applications •
Create and maintain administrative reports in MS Access •
Support database staff as needed to implement data changes

Qualifications
• Good organizational skills
• Attention to detail and accurate execution of tasks
• Able to follow directions and adhere to procedures
• Ability to recognize patterns and inconsistencies and pursue appropriate action
• Effective collaboration with other staff to address task requirements and questions
• Able to work relatively independently after task is outlined
• Understanding of database and relationship to company business model

About the Jaeb Center
The Jaeb Center for Health Research is a coordinating center for multi-center clinical trials and epidemiologic research. The Center currently coordinates NIH-funded multi-center clinical research networks, NIH-funded multi-center studies, and a privately funded multi-center study. RESEARCH DATA MANAGER
The data manager position has primary responsibility for the database and database-related tasks for a study research project. The position is supervised by the project director and interfaces with both the project and programming groups.

The data manager has a thorough understanding of the project databases including object definitions, content, functionality and relationships with other objects and development tasks. The data manager participates in study development as the authority for existing database objects and the relationship of those objects to new project requirements.

The data manager fully understands each current study protocol as it relates to the project database. This understanding allows the data manager to evaluate database needs and the implication of data additions or modifications.

The data manager has overall responsibility for creating and maintaining project and protocol specific database objects, stored procedures, data and associated tasks.

Study Development Responsibilities
• Create database objects (tables, fields, etc.) and stored procedures per company standards
• Create protocol specific procedures as needed in collaboration with lead programmer
• Enter programming data required for new study development
• Add appropriate database records for company templating application
• Annotate data collection forms with database information for documentation
• Oversee development progress using scheduling application
• Create test patient scenarios for project review and validation
• Verify table structure, fields and extended properties are correct, accurate and consistent prior to production platform deployment
• Perform final review and signoff for key database objects prior to deployment
• Direct the deployment of database objects to the staging and production platforms

Maintenance and Support Responsibilities
• Maintain database objects (tables, fields, etc.) and stored procedures
• Oversee all changes to patient or administrative data
• Identify study data collection form edits that require further evaluation
• Edit production data per company procedures
• Request changes to deployed tables using the proper documentation
• Collaborate with development staff to maintain deployed stored procedures
• Create new project and protocol stored procedures
• Perform data queries as needed for project staff
• Maintain multiple project and protocol binders including program documentation, data and structural changes, and study validation documents
• Program in MS Access as needed

Required Skills
• Experience with databases; Microsoft SQL experience a plus
• Ability to grasp database concepts and object relationships
• Ability to recognize data-related patterns and inconsistencies
• Able to evaluate data-related issues and pursue appropriate action
• Accurate and consistent attention to details
• Excellent organizational skills
• Team player for effective collaboration with project and development staff
• Ability to work independently
• Understands relationship between project database and company business model
